WHAT WE DO
Yoshinkan Aikido is a Japanese martial art that employs joint locks, throws, and pins against one or multiple opponents. Instead of relying on kicking and punching, it uses an opponent’s force against them. The stronger the opponent, the easier it is to overcome them. Aikido is practiced worldwide by both men and women of all ages and is deemed mandatory training for all members of the Tokyo Riot Police. While the Yoshinkan style may appear gentle and soft, it is in fact deceptively powerful when employed correctly. As a form of self-defense, it can be used successfully without seriously injuring the opponent. In Yoshinkan aikido, students work on developing dexterity, timing, and balance. Attacks are blended with, controlled, and defused. Control and moving every part of the body in concert is the key to successful aikido training.
